I was listening to this game live online and if I’m not mistaken, this was the first time that Scranton lost after leading in the 8th inning. They were the only team that hasn’t lost yet after leading after the 8th inning but that ended tonight. Starting for Scranton was Kei Igawa and he gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 6.2 innings for the no decision. That’s only an ok game. If he’s pitching, “ok” games in the minors, you know Igawa will get rocked again if he’s called up to the majors. Following Igawa was Steven Jackson and he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit. Mark Melancon pitched the 9th inning and lost the game by giving up 2 earned runs on 2 hits. Melancon will be ok. He worked his way up from Tampa all the way to Scranton this year.

The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were left-fielder Jason Lane, right-fielder Ben Broussard, and second baseman Chris Basak. At the start of the year when Hughes was struggling, I thought that maybe he should concentrate more on his pitching than worrying about his blog. Now I feel it would be a perfect time for him to blog. It would show the struggles he is going through and how he is coping. I have a feeling that he stopped blogging because he feels embarrassed by his performances this year. The Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees won a high scoring game over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 9-6. Starting for Scranton was Phil Hughes and he did not pitch well giving up 5 earned runs on 8 hits in 3.2 innings of work for the no decision. Replacing Hughes was Zachary Kroenke and he pitched 3 scoreless innings giving up 1 hit for the win. Not bad for a Trenton guy. Following Kroenke was Scott Patterson and he gave up 1 earned run on 1 hit in 2.1 innings for his 5th save.

The hitting stars of the game for Scranton worth mentioning were center fielder Melky Cabrera, first baseman Juan Miranda and short stop Nick Green.
